What age do you start lessons?
The typical age we start lessons is 7-8 years old. This varies from child to child but this is the range where we will put the reins in their hands. Any younger and we do what's called a "Junior" or "Pony Ride" lesson where riders are walked around the area and asked to complete various balance exercises catered to their age and understanding. Anyone mounted has to be at least 2 years of age and all riders are required to wear an ASTM certified helmet.
2
How long are lessons?
Private lessons are 30 mins one-on-one and groups are 1 hour, it is expected that riders arrive early with enough time to tack up their assigned mounts BEFORE their ride time.
3
What do I need to get started?
It is recommended that riders arrive with closed toe shoes or a boot with a low heel and long pants (no matter the season). The barn has helmets available to borrow and any tack that is required for each horse assigned.
4
Do I need my own horse?
Nope! Ariel currently owns 18 horses for all level riders most of which are reserved for the school and a select few are also available for lease or sale.
5
Is there a dress code?
We expect riders to present themselves professionally no matter their level. Long pants are required when riding. As this is an outdoor sport, wearing layers is very helpful in the winter and long sleeved sun shirts are great for the summer. ABSOLUTELY NO crop tops/skinny strap tank tops and shorts worn outside of the lesson must be an appropriate length. Long hair must be tied back under a helmet when mounted.

How do I schedule?
First, you will be asked to fill out the Lesson Inquiry Form
(on the Riding Lessons page) Then please be patient as we move through the waitlist to give you the next available time slot that works for you. Whatever information about your availability you are able to offer will expedite your request as that gives us more information to work with and it is appreciated! once a time schedule is decided all lessons are required to be paid ahead of time to hold the time slot. You are always welcome to text Ariel on her barn line at 804-339-7884!
